Food microbiology - Targeted surveys - Final report - Bacterial Pathogens and Indicators in Pasteurized Goat, Sheep, and Water Buffalo Milk Cheese - April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2023

We tested 910 samples of pasteurized goat, sheep, and water buffalo milk cheese for the presence of certain strains of Salmonella, Listeria, Staphylococcus, and E. coli.

Almost all (99.8%) of the samples tested were found to be satisfactory. Overall, our survey results indicate that pasteurized goat, sheep, and water buffalo milk cheese sold in Canada are safe for consumption. However, as with all food, and especially those that are ready-to-eat good hygienic practices are recommended for producers, retailers and consumers.
