The Claim Summary Tool (CST) is an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled tool used by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) to support the review of Disability Benefit applications and get decisions to Veterans sooner.
For many Veterans, applications involve large volumes of medical records and service documents. The CST helps organize this information by producing a structured summary with links to original source documents that highlights key details so decision makers can review applications and supporting documentation more efficiently and consistently. This helps VAC reduce processing time and supports timely decisions for Veterans.
The CST does not make decisions, determine eligibility, or replace human judgement. VAC employees always review the information and make the final decision on every application.
The CST operates only within VAC’s secure systems. The tool does not learn from, store, reuse, or send personal information outside Canada and is managed with strong privacy, security, compliance, and quality controls to protect Veterans’ information at all times. The CST follows all Government of Canada requirements for the responsible use of AI. This includes transparency, human oversight, privacy protection, and ongoing monitoring to ensure the tool continues to work accurately and as intended.
