Engagement on Canada’s 2035 Emissions Reduction Target

Canada announced its 2035 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target of 45-50% below 2005 levels in December 2024. The target was informed by many considerations, including those set out in the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act, which requires the Government of Canada to take into account the best scientific information available, Indigenous Knowledge, Canada's international commitments related to climate change, and advice from the Net-Zero Advisory Body. As per the Act, the Government also sought submissions from provinces and territories; First Nations, Inuit and Métis governments and representative organizations; stakeholders; and Canadians. This resource contains the original written submissions received from provinces, territories, and Indigenous Partners, as well as a summary report of the public engagement process with stakeholders and Canadians. These records were received in spring of 2024. Disclaimer – These submissions were originally written in one official language and the translated version may be subject to subtle differences in meaning across languages. It is recommended to read the original version where possible to ensure integrity of the perspectives being shared. The records below indicate which language is the original version received.
