This report reviews the 2008 legislative assessment of Export Development Canada (EDC) as part of its ten-year statutory review under the Export Development Act. It examines EDC’s role in supporting Canadian exporters, its competitiveness in global markets, and its interaction with private-sector insurers. The study addresses issues such as short-term export credit insurance, transparency, accountability, and EDC’s expanded mandate during the economic downturn. It provides recommendations to enhance EDC’s effectiveness, improve reporting standards, strengthen partnerships, and ensure periodic legislative reviews to maintain alignment with Canada’s trade objectives.
