This dataset relates to the CFIA targeted survey report “Dioxins and Dioxin-like Compounds in Selected Food Products – April 1, 2014, to March 31, 2019.” The survey examined vegetable oils and fats, meat and meat products, fish and seafood, ready-to-eat meals, dairy products, nuts and seeds, and their derivatives, as well as meal replacements and protein powders available in the Canadian retail market.
Between April 2014 and March 2019, 3,115 samples were collected from retail stores across Canada. Dioxins and/or dioxin-like compounds were detected in 95% of samples tested. Health Canada’s Bureau of Chemical Safety evaluated the observed levels and determined that none posed a risk to human health. No recalls resulted from this survey.
