This guidance note provides policy and programming direction for Canada’s international development assistance to promote women’s economic empowerment. It aims to help integrate gender equality into strategies and design initiatives that address barriers women face in accessing economic opportunities. The document outlines why women’s economic empowerment is critical for sustainable growth, poverty reduction, and gender equality, and offers a framework for effective programming, including enabling institutional frameworks, increasing women’s economic opportunities, and strengthening women’s agency.
