DIS-14-01 Design Extension Conditions for Nuclear Power Plants

Following the 2011 disaster in Fukushima, Japan, nuclear regulators around the world launched a comprehensive review of their major nuclear facilities. For its part, the CNSC established the CNSC Fukushima Task Force to review the capability of nuclear power plants (NPPs) and other nuclear facilities across the country to withstand conditions comparable to those that triggered the Fukushima accident. The task force concluded that Canadian nuclear power plants are safe and the risk posed to the health and safety of Canadians or to the environment is small.
