Deterioration notice

The deterioration notice makes it possible to link violations of Regulation 23-016 on the occupancy and maintenance of buildings to specific buildings through an entry in the Quebec land register. It is used to prevent an owner from avoiding sanctions by selling their building to a related company or to another buyer. This power is used in the case of buildings subject to deterioration that may affect the health or safety of the occupants, and whose owner does not carry out the required repair, repair or maintenance work within the prescribed time. A notice of regularization is issued when all violations related to the building are corrected and has the effect of withdrawing the notice of deterioration.
