Chief Military Judge published courts martial decisions

The office of the Chief Military Judge is an independent judicial organization which presides cases at courts martial and other judicial proceedings when required. The services provided by the personnel of the Office support the institutional independence of the court martial, and simultaneously the military judiciary, by delivering court administration and effective and efficient provision of administrative services.

This dataset includes all published courts martial decisions, sentences, findings, presiding judges and dates of publication for the period between April 2020 and April 2021.

The court martial – a formal military court presided over by a military judge – is designed to deal with more serious offences. Courts martial are conducted in accordance with rules and procedures similar to those of civilian criminal courts and have the same rights, powers and privileges as a superior court of criminal jurisdiction with respect to all “matters necessary or proper for the due exercise of [their] jurisdiction.
