Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) rates in patients while in hospital

Clostridium difficile Infection (CDI) rates while in hospital are measured and monitored by infection prevention and control staff as a means to evaluate the effectiveness of their infection control protocols. CDI rates are calculated by dividing the number of clostridium difficile infections by the total number of patient days. This rate is then multiplied by 10,000 to make a standard CDI infection rate for each reporting period. The rate is reported per 10,000 patient days.
