A century of fiscal and public service employment data. This dataset supports the analysis and figures used in the 2024 publication "Canada's Federal Spending Reviews: 50 Years of Facts, Figures, and Lessons", product code FON1-J13. It contains year-by-year and component-by-component details on spending review savings announced in various public government documents covering a fifty year span from the early 1970s to the early 2020s. Supporting data series derived from public sources include a variety of demographic data on the federal public service, armed forces, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and other government entities. These are used to derive comparative series and charts stretching from 1924 to 2024. Source footnotes and commentary are included, generally on an annual source basis.
